Meet Daryl Mitchell

This is the third in our series of intrepid video interviews in which we profile exciting young players stepping up to the Yahoo!NZ Northern Knights for the first time this season.

Although based in Perth in recent years, where his father John was coaching the Western Force in Super Rugby and where Daryl represented the Western Australia under-19s in cricket, 20-year-old Daryl has maintained close ties with Northern Districts and represented us well at the national under-23 tournament last year, which included an unbeaten hundred.

He had yet to play for the Knights when he was named as a contracted player in July, which is another way of saying the selectors really like what they have seen. He made his maroon-and-gold debut in the Ford Trophy match against the Canterbury Wizards and although that match was ultimately rained off, he at least got a couple of overs under his belt before the team headed to the Mount to play the Aces.

There Daryl had his first real game of note, scoring 48 valuable runs when the team was under a bit of wicket pressure before taking Anaru Kitchen's wicket with his very first ball that day.

So without further ado, let's meet Daryl. All the Yahoo!NZ Northern Knights, everyone at Northern Districts Cricket and myself wish you a Merry Christmas!
