Out In The Middle With Scott
Back to Out In The Middle With ScottOn The Board!
It’s no secret I’m pretty happy to finally be off the mark and on the board with a few runs in this World Cup?
To be honest I’m ecstatic!
There’s nothing worse than being on tour and not being on the scoreboard, you can imagine the grief I’ve been copping from the boys.
Of course what goes around comes around and it’s nothing too nasty!
To pick up such a solid win over Pakistan this week was absolutely crucial in our World Cup campaign here.
And I have to say Ross Taylor’s 131 not out from 124 balls was a fantastic knock.
He stood up when he was called on by the team and took care of business.
There was a down side to our win and that is of course the injury to Dan Vettori.
For those of you who haven’t seen or heard what happened, Dan was going for a catch early on in the Pakistan innings and injured his knee.
We’re unsure how bad the injury is right now, it will need a couple of days to settle down and any decisions are made.
Whether he plays against Canada in Mumbai is yet to be decided.
But don’t think we’re taking Canada lightly.
Any team in this competition has the ability to create an upset and it’s fair to say when you’re up against a team ranked higher than you it’s an extra bit of incentive.
But we have the chance to go top of our group if we win the next two games.
A win over Canada and then Sri Lanka would see us head into the quarter finals with a lot of momentum behind us.
And as we all know confidence in your ability in a tournament like this is vital.
The Black Caps have made it to the semi finals of the World Cup on five occasions and it would be great to go one step better this year and be in the final.
Of course our ultimate goal is to bring home the trophy and we have had that on our minds since we played Pakistan at home earlier this year.
But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves either.
It’s one game at a time here.
And to finish off this week’s blog I thought I’d let you in on how we got to the match against Pakistan.
It wasn’t a four bus ride that’s for sure.
We had the privilege of taking a thirty minute chopper ride to the game which was outstanding.
Unfortunately I can’t see that being the way we get to all our games for the rest of the tournament.
