Back to Girl TalkSummer has arrived
Northern Spirit player "Legs 11" pens her first blog about whats been going on in the build up to their season.
Summer has finally arrived and so has the first round of the women's domestic cricket competition. After a long preseason schedule we are more than ready to start our season.
The hard yards started back in August when we were introduced to our new coach Owen Steverson. We started with the traditional BBQ at "Irenes drop-in centre" (the Anna's flat) and played a lovely game of 20 questions...it is safe to say he passed with flying colours and we now know all those important things about Owen. A preseason highlight was winter camp in Gisborne, (everyone loves a roady and there's nothing like a bit of Westlife and Miley Cyrus being belted out to pass the time). We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to train on grass pitches and to have quality ND coaches such at Pat Malcon, James Pamment and Craig Ross at hand to help us fine tune and experiment with some techniques and skills. A number of warm up matches have been played through November to ensure we are ready to get the ball rolling. Other highlights include the signing of our new sponsor Sweat Personal Training Studio and an overseas player Hannah Trollip who joins us from Australia.
The Northern Spirit are a team that is known for athleticism, enthusiasm, passion and pride that is displayed both on and off the field and this year will be no different. This weekend we take on the Central Hinds at Blake Park on Friday and Seddon Park Saturday and Sunday. So come along to be sure to see big runs, plenty of wickets and some spectacular fielding. Or be sure to follow my blog as I take you through the challenges and successes the Northern Spirit may face this summer.
With everyone on board supporting us and Owen and new captain Morna Nielsen at the helm we are ready to steer our campaign in the right direction.
