Spirit burnt by the Wellington Blaze

Wellington weather really turned the heat up and so did the Wellington Blaze in what was a 3 nil series.

The weeks preparation consisted of some solid trainings and we were sure we were ready to take on the star studded Blaze. We arrived at the ground where it was hard to tell what was the pitch and what was the outfield and after losing the toss of course we were batting first in the first Twenty20. Another slow batting performance was unfortunately produced by us with a few batters getting starts but unable to convert to anything significant (Wolfy made a mentionable 36). This saw us making 94 in our 20 overs with the Blazes experienced White Ferns Sian Ruck and Lucy Doolan proving to much. But like the fighters we are we weren't going to hand them the game. The experienced batting line up for the Blaze kept their cool, only losing 1 wicket and reaching the target in the last over once again. "Mornana whats my name" Nielsen was once again a demon with the ball with figures off 4-1-6-1 (The current record for domestic level).

Mornana has proven to be a better tosser than previous captains already into the second round, winning the toss and choosing to bowl in the One Day match. Wellington openers got the home team off to a great start with runs coming quick fire losing their first wicket for 89 in 21 overs BUT with that wicket momentum swung our way and the runs slowed. Mainly because of Floss, who ripped the spirit out of the Blaze finishing with 10-1-26-4 and Mornana who also had amazing figures of 10-1-15-2, the Blaze eventually bowled out on 171. However our chase was not to be, with regular wickets falling and only getting 3 batsmen in double figures we were bowled out for 123.

Onto the last day we were 100% confident we had the bowling and fielding abilities to beat the Blaze and it was our goal to put together a solid batting performance. Mornana won toss and we chose to bat in the 2nd Twenty20.  We lost a few quick wickets and uncle mo (momentum) was with the Wellingtonians from the get go, we managed to get ourselves to 72 thanks to some sloid batting from the veteran Nicky B. Again we fought hard with the ball and for a third time in a row we took it into the last over but the Wellington batters really showing us how its done. Brooke deserving a mention finishing her 4 overs for just a mere 8 runs.

There were some stunning efforts in the field and with the ball during this round but as we go back home some work in the batting department needs to be done! With the Sweat Player of the Match Cheque following us around we cant wait give it out in the next round vs Otago.

Cutting away,

"Legs 11"
